ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an exciting role and opportunity for the right person to enter into a context where faith is alive! We’re looking for a spiritually mature, anointed, and equipped leader - someone with a call, experience, and a deep commitment to building and leading alongside our incredible TEAM. We’re looking for someone committed to helping people encounter Jesus in ways that matter and make sense, and developing a series of systems, strategies, processes, people, and a plan, toward spiritual nourishment and development.

The Pastor of Spiritual Formation & Teaching Pastor will work to create, enhance, and multiply opportunities for spiritual transformation, from conversion to maturity including new believers’ classes, next steps classes, LifeGoups (small groups), individual and small group discipleship, and personal mentoring. You will direct, supervise, and encourage lay leaders and staff to achieve a vision of transformation, which involves a deepening relationship with God and understanding and obedience to Scripture resulting in the intentional care and service of others.

ABOUT THE POSITION
​

Identify the areas of greatest need and opportunity for spiritual growth within Reach Church.

Create a clear, concise plan for the development and implementation of LifeGroups, with the desired outcome of 80% or more of all participants within Reach involved in a LifeGroup in the future.

Understand the cultural needs of our community, create on-ramps for people to encounter Jesus and grow in their faith through unique classes, smaller groups, affinity groups, conferences, trainings, etc.

Meet with individuals for pastoral care and discipleship.

Give vision, direction, and oversight to our 60+ LifeGroups and their current leadership.

Recruit and develop other called and capable LifeGroup leaders.

Collaborate with our Senior Pastor to create, facilitate, and teach unique classes and conferences geared toward spiritual formation.

Build and foster community amongst the volunteers and staff of the spiritual formations’ ministry and department.

Plan, implement, and manage a budget for your area(s) of ministry.

Spend intentional time continuing to learn about the greatest needs and best practices for developing the spiritual formations ministry.

Participate in weekly staff meetings, quarterly staff development days, and our annual leadership team retreat.

Attend all staff functions: meetings, dinners, retreats, social gatherings, etc.

Actively participate in community life within Reach and throughout Washington County.

Oversee and enhance ministry to new believers and help them with spiritual formation, biblical understanding, and community building.

Oversee leadership and assist in promotion of ministries related to Bible studies, LifeGroups, classes, and leader recruitment and development.

ABOUT THE PERSON
​
Follower of Jesus: You are an active pursuer of Jesus first and foremost! A committed relationship with Jesus and led and empowered by the Holy Spirit, you are someone that passionately pursues a right relationship with Jesus by grace through faith.
​
Leadership: You are excited about and responsible for providing overall leadership to our discipleship ministries and staff (paid and volunteer). This includes ensuring the mission and values of Reach Church are realized throughout our spiritual formations process ministry in a way that speaks the cultural language of our community and beyond, all in an effort to help people encounter Jesus.
​
Spiritual Formation: You are someone with a broad knowledge of and value for differing forms of spiritual formation and discipleship needed for a diverse spiritual community of new and maturing Christians, including LifeGroups, mentoring, and varied forms of Christian discipleship. Specialized emphasis on reaching to and connecting with new believers is critical for this role!

Assimilation: You have a vision for and a proven leadership experience for developing teams to welcome and assimilate spiritually curious non-Christians and new believers into the life of the church.
Strategist: You are creative in implementing our church’s vision, mission, and values. You have a proven ability to organize theoretical ideas into actionable and measurable processes. You are wise in decision making regarding human and financial resources in a constantly growing church.
LifeGroups: You believe that Christ in community is critical for the life of every follower of Jesus, and you are committed to creating and supporting environments by which people of Reach Church can grow in their faith and spiritual formation alongside their peers and others in a smaller setting. These communities include smaller groups that meet in people’s homes, what has traditionally been known as “small groups”. It’s no mistake that we call these communities “LifeGroups,” because at Reach Church, we are committed to life and ministry together!
Pastor: You are a part of our pastoral staff and desire to shepherd people with a Spirit-led intentionality and authenticity, in ways that matter and make sense, all in an effort to help people encounter Jesus and grow in their faith through spiritual formation.

Preacher/Teacher: You are someone that has a passion for expository preaching, a gift for communicating God’s truths in ways that are intentional and understandable and would like to continue to grow in your gift of preaching through opportunities to share the weekend teaching. You are sound in your doctrine, theology, and ability to communicate with a highly relevant and relational preaching style. You have an ability to communicate spiritual truth in compelling and transformative ways to non-Christian guests, new believers, and maturing Christians. You have a cooperative and collaborative personality enabling effective teamwork in a preaching rotation established by our Senior Pastor.

Communicator: You are a gifted communicator in both verbal and non-verbal communications. This means that you communicate on purpose and in a way that people want to listen to and can easily understand and adopt what you’re communicating.
Ideator: You are the CIO (Chief Idea Officer) for spiritual formation. We place high value on innovation and anticipate that our Spiritual Formations & Teaching Pastor will carry the same excitement for engaging relevant ministry. As an ideator, you will work closely with our Senior Pastor and Executive Team, an amazing staff, and a dynamic team of volunteers in order to help people encounter Jesus and begin or continue to grow in their spiritual formation, depending on where they’re at in their faith journey.
Administrator: You are adept at administration. You know how to build a plan with specifics, details, and deadlines. You are phenomenal at follow through and don’t require someone to micromanage you.
Developer: You are the chief developer of people, processes, and programs within our spiritual formations’ ministry. You see and place high value on creating, casting, and carrying the vision of our spiritual formations ministry while enlisting the help of and developing others.

Connector: You are connected throughout our community and are collaborating with people, engaging with them where they're at and inviting them to join us in the journey of faith in the context of community.
